Creating Article Types

The article "type" defines the overall settings for a specific article; things like:

  • Can visitors post comments to articles?
  • Does the article "expire" after a specific date.
  • And more.

A brand new Tiki installation, like yours, contains these default article types:

  • Articles
  • Reviews
  • Events
  • Classifieds

From the Menu:

  1. Select Articles > Admin Types. The Admin Article Types page appears.
The Admin Article Types page appears.
    Admin Article Types
The Admin Article Types page lists the (default) article types and allows you to create new types.

Here, you will create a new article type. You can control many of the article's default actions (such as what type of information appears), by configuring the type.

     Tip

Click Show Help to display detailed information about each option.
  2. In the Add Type area, enter a new article type (such as News Items) and click Add.
    Admin Article Types.
Your newly added article type appears in the list.

Tiki adds the type and reloads the page.
  3. Click the List of Article Types tab.
Configuring options for your newly created article type.
  4. Select the following options for the new article type:
    • Comments: This allows visitors to post comments to articles of this type.
    • Show Image: Remember the image you added when creating the new topic? This allows the topic's image to appear in the article.
    • Show Author: The user who submitted the article will be listed as the author.
    • Show Publish Date: Tiki will display the date that the article was submitted.
  5. Click Save. Tiki saves the information and reloads the page.
